AreaRE.com™ was the first online real estate guide for North Central and Northwest Pennsylvania, and still is the only such guide with more than one agancy displaying properties to the best of our knowledge. It was also one of the first real estate guides anywhere on the Internet.
Launched in October 1998, on "opening day", November 1, 1998, three real estate agencies participated, presenting a total of 60 properties in McKean and Warren counties. Over the years, a number of agencies have participated, listing properties for sale, in Armstrong, Cameron, Clarion, Clearfield, Clinton, Crawford, Elk, Forest, Jefferson, McKean, Potter, Venango, and Warren Counties in Pennsylvania. There are or have been links to real estate agencies in Chautauqua and Onondaga Counties in nearby New York State.
In August 2005 AreaRE.com™ recorded over 100,000 hits on its home page, with 10's of thousands more hits that bypassed the home page to browse directly to a specific county or town. (Note: We no longer keep track of hits.) On July 7, 2008, AreaRE.com™ presented its 1250th property for sale. Several individuals also have had their properties presented here as For Sale By Owner (FSBO).

The formal announcement of the inauguration of AreaRE.com™ in 1998. NOTE: Much has changed since this original announcement, including 10's of thousands of more area residents acquiring Internet access, and millions of more people nationwide and around the world. Internet Service Providers have come and gone, and DSL is rapidly displacing dial-up, which permits better displays of photos, such as tours of properties. A guide such as this has only become more valuable to purchasers and sellers of real estate over the past 10 years.
AN INNOVATIVE METHOD for area real estate agencies to advertise their listings to local and national customers premiered on the Internet at www.AreaRE.com on November 1, 1998.
AreaRE.com™, designed, developed, and maintained by Richard A. (Dick) Johnson, owner of Arden Services, Kane, Pennsylvania, started online on October 20th and, by its formal launch, had three area agencies as participants. Combined, the participants display a total of 60 listings in McKean, Warren and Elk Counties. Mr. Johnson, who was Executive Officer and Multiple Listing Service (MLS) Manager of the Chautauqua County Board of Realtors® Inc., in Jamestown, NY for four years, said, "I realized that my MLS experience combined with my Internet abilities put me in the perfect position to offer a valuable service to real estate agencies in this area. There are at least 5,000 residents in McKean and Warren counties alone with Internet access through our great local Internet Service Provider, Penncom, and perhaps thousands more with access through the national service providers. Tens of millions of other Internet users nationwide have direct access to such a Web site. Properties for sale in this area are not limited only to local residents. With industries such as FCI McKean, Kane Magnetics International, and Zippo, to name just a few who attract employees from anywhere in the country, a quick, local source of properties for sale from a variety of agencies is a vital service. It permits relocating employees to get a look at the area before they even come here, as well as permitting local residents to look for a new home regardless of the weather." In addition to residential properties, multi-family, commercial, retail and investment properties are available for review as well. Charter participants in the service are Century 21 Katy Real Estate in Kane, Penn Laurel Realty in Bradford and Rocking Horse Realty in Smethport. Communities represented today include Kane, Bradford, Smethport, Warren, Marshburg, Mt. Jewett, Mt. Alton, Lewis Run, Duke Center, Russell, Rixford and Wilcox.
